Did you read the Autobiography of Malcolm X? Do you remember Malcolm describing Harlem scene in Creole Bill's speakeasy? Bill is from Louisiana and according to Malcolm makes some of the best gumbo he has ever had and hard drinks which he serves to an integrated clientele. How is the eating and drinking experience in Bill’s black owned and operated eatery similar or different from that in a traditional bar and grill in terms of socially constructed expectations in the historical context of the 1940s-1950s New York City?
