George Washington Carver was truly the Greatest of All Time (GOAT) when it came to regenerative agriculture. During his 33 years at Tuskegee Institute, no one contributed more to helping farmers grow better food and make more money - especially African American farmers who faced huge challenges in the late 1800s and early 1900s. Carver taught farmers to plan ahead and work together to raise and save everything possible from their farms, gardens, and orchards. He recommended that every farm have:
One or two good cows: A good cow is "half of any family's living," providing all the butter, milk, and cream a family need, plus extra to sell
Twelve good hens and one rooster: With minimal care, they'll produce all the eggs a family needs, some meat, and surplus to trade or sell
A few guinea hens, ducks, turkeys, and geese: These bring pleasure and profit without much extra cost
