George Washington Carver advocated that nothing is more lucrative than a vegetable garden, which provides two kinds of benefits: First food for your body and mind and second, gardens should produce enough surplus to barter or sell for cash. Vegetables that sell well include beans, peas, onions, potatoes, tomatoes, cabbage, turnips, and beets. Gardens should also provide plenty of produce for canning, pickling, preserving, and drying to enjoy throughout winter and spring.
