Food and Behavioral Health Part 2

The East was a 1970s movement in central Brooklyn for the empowerment of people of African descent. The movement regularly published community health concerns in its paper Black News.  On the topic of behavioral health it published an article in 1981 that documented that removing sugar, junk food, dairy, gluten, and corn from the diet creates a state of balance and erratic behavior disappears. When the body and brain are fed nutrient rich food and properly hydrated, they function the best. To often we don’t make the link between what we eat and our mental health; the same is true with relationship between sleep hygiene and our mental health. The East sought to spread the message of being wholistic and practicing selfcare.
