Ending Food Apartheid

Today we look at the work of Food Rebel Will Allen. About 1983 Allen established a nonprofit organization in Milwaukee, Wisconsin he called Growing Power (GP). During his public appearances, he shares the history of GP in 100 slides containing photos documenting its work. Yes, I know that sounds daunting and boring. However to the contrary, I attended one if his presentations and found it amazing. Allen’s talk left me wanting to learn more about how I could get involved. Will Allen’s work fits my definition of a food rebel. GP started teaching children how to create compost nutrient rich soil, grow produce in it, and sell the produce to residents experiencing food apartheid (living in places without access to grocery stores that sell fresh food).
