Dr. Alvenia Fulton grew up on a farm in Pulaski Tennessee. Her mother used natural treatments like apple cider vinegar on her children’s infirmities. Like her mother, Dr. Fulton lived to break people free from poor health, especially people who were impoverished or marginalized. One remedy called for making a paste from cornstarch and apple cider vinegar. The paste reduces the swelling and itching feeling associated with insect bites and stings, welts and hives. A daily vinegar tonic (apple cider infused water or beverage) also serves as a mosquito repellent. Similarly, a recipe of equal parts apple cider vinegar and water or apple cider vinegar and rubbing alcohol, stops the irritating itch associated with poison ivy and poison oak.
