Food Rebel Groceries

My father recalls listening to food rebel Dick Gregory on the radio speaking at length about ways for his listeners to improve how they cook, eat, and live. Dr. Alvenia Fulton became popular because she was the one who advised Dick Gregory during his many long, publicized fasts for political action. Because of what he heard on the radio, my father began to bring home radically different groceries to the house from the Grand Union in town. Dad started shopping at the Chilmark Health Food Store in Ossining, where he purchased breads, biscuits, and muffins made with unbleached flour, whole grains, and lots of fiber. This was the only health food store I knew of until I left the area after high school.
