A Good Garden

In the pages of The Farmer’s Improvement Society of Texas (FIS) paper the  Helping Hand it published an article subsistence gardening. The FIS a good home garden one that could supply a family’s daily nutritional needs and enough surplus that could be canned, dried, or otherwise preserved in such a way that it would last for a year in the case of a catastrophe such as a drought. Canned beets, beans, tomatoes, squash, carrots, and cucumbers are delicious at any time of the year.
