Nutritionist Dr. Alvenia M. Fulton (1893 to 1999) had been a renowned dietitian and herbalist in Chicago. From 1971 to 1972 she wrote a column for the Chicago Defender called “Eating for Your Health and Strength.” Fulton observed that one’s poor emotional status results in compulsive eating of unhealthy foods laden with white sugar, white flour, and deep-fried foods. The same is true with negativity, poor interpersonal relationships, rejection, isolation, and stress and irritability. Fulton prescribes a diet of raw produce and nuts. Then a juice fast for those seeking to cleanse their body, rest their digestive system, and regenerate their minds.
