Common Misconceptions About Africa

Common Misconceptions About Africa

Dahomey Capital City, Benin 1850s , Courtesy of The New York Public Library

Here are summary of common misconceptions about Africa: Africa is a country instead of a continent. Africans had slavery similar to chattel slavery in the Americas making them the preferred people to enslave. Black migration to Europe and America improved those Africans to who left the Dark Continent. African history starts with European colonialism. Wars for independence and the struggle against war Lords and Muslim extremist makes Africa a dangerous place except for going on a safe safari. Bare breasted women in war torn Africa have not received the nutrition necessary in order to breast-feed their belly bloated infants. Without donations from Europeans and Americans Africans will starve. The problems in contemporary Africa require an international response. Where have your views of Africa come from?
