Welcome to Dr. Frederick Douglass Opie's personal website

As a family, I grew up eating more fresh produce than most. Vegetable and fruit salads showed up more often than anything else at a family meal.  My dad made shakes/smoothies with what seemed at the time strange ingredients such as fruit, protein powders, brewer’s yeast, and honey. After several years, it became normal for me and now I am the strange dad making similar concoctions. I watched an interview with a gold medalist and NBA all-star in his late 20s. He said and I quote, “I just started eating some fruits and vegetables. I like strawberries now.” The way I grew up that sounds like a story from outer space instead of the United States.  Imagine how his performance would improve if the athlete started eating high octane food?
