Naturopath Dr. Alvenia Fulton (1893-1999) was born in Tennessee in migrated to Chicago where she practiced. Naturopathy developed historically as a system of medicine based on the premise that the body will heal itself when various components are strengthened with the appropriate nutrients, natural remedies, medicinal plants, rest, and hydration. Naturopathy practitioners resisted deference to physicians as the only expert in town as the American Medical Association sought professionalize healthcare in the 19th century.
