Dr. Alvenia Fulton (1893 to 1999) was a highly respected Chicago based doctor of naturopathy. Her  expertise attracted noted athletes like Muhammad Ali, Gale Sayers, and Bill Walton. Fulton recommends raw cabbage and celery juice to inhibit and decrease stomach ulcers a problem that she had first-hand experience with. The success of this remedy served as a career changing experience for her. Thereafter she studied to become a naturopath. Fulton experienced severe stomach problems in the early 1950s after she had migrated to Chicago from Tennessee. Soon thereafter, she began to suffer from a bleeding stomach ulcer for weeks. She pointed to growing up on a toxic southern diet and overeating as the root of the problem. She had been like the sick woman in the Gospel of Mark, who suffered a great deal under the care of many doctors and had spent all she had, yet never got better but grew worse. Through the stomach illness, she met a naturopathic practitioner who told her about the above treatment for stomach problems and her suffering ended in her dedication to naturopathy began.
