Retail politics in the state of Iowa means attending allot of food events such as picnics, barbecues, corn boils and feasting on wild game. In Iowa contenders for their party’s nomination must eat and deliver stump speeches at large state fairs and intimate fund raisers held at private homes. When political party operatives invite a candidate and that candidate doesn’t show, they loose the support of local political machines on caucus days which are key to wining the state’s party primaries.
