This is a reboot of one of the first interviews on the Fred Opie Show. Babson Hockey Coach Jamie Rice shares how he and his staff decides which roughly seven prospective student athletes they will extend an invite to join his team each fall. Babson has been ranked number one in teaching entrepreneurship to undergraduates for many years and it takes a special kind of student athlete to excel in the classroom and in athletics. Coach Rice unpacks the difference emphasis he puts on nature vs nurture, size, drive and student athletes based on his coaching career at the Division 1 and Division 3 level. He also talks about the importance of self-care and family-care for coaches, which makes this an interview worth listening to. Check out the show notes at the end of the podcast to learn more about interviews we have done with ice hockey coaches with a relationship to lacrosse.
