Tips on Juicing

Dr. Alvenia Fulton (1893-1999) wrote “Eating for Your Health and Strength,” a column in the Black-owned-and-operated Chicago Defender. She’s mentioned in the recent documentary The One and Only Dick Gregory. Here I am sharing her thoughts on cleansing your digestive system. I share them in a paraphrased format when necessary to make it more relevant and accessible and as direct quotes as often as possible.

Some hints for juice dieters: Generally, do not drink fruit and vegetables at the same time. Select the fruits and vegetables that are the most fresh. Decaying fruits and vegetables have lost most of their vitamin content. Wash all fruits and vegetables thoroughly to remove dirt and chemicals. Do not peel or scrape the skin from such vegetables as carrots because most of the nutritive food values are near the surface of the skin.
